NIST SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship)

http://www.surf.nist.gov/surf2.htm

The Computer Integrated Building Processes Group (http://cic.nist.gov/) at NIST has submitted a project for the upcoming SURF program this summer. The project is related to testing and characterizing interoperability between building-related CAD software. Essentially, the student will be using several CAD programs (Revit, Bentley, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD Architecture) and testing and characterizing how well IFC files work for interoperability. Being able to use at least one of the CAD programs is a must. They will learn the others on their own. The student needs to be a self-starter that can take initiative. We'll get them up to speed with IFC.

The student must be a US citizen. Most students are at NIST for 11 weeks, May 27 - August 8, 2008. Housing is provided and daily transportation to and from NIST. They receive a $4,000 stipend that gets paid through a grant to their university. If you are interested, start the application process now at http://www.surf.nist.gov/app.htm

The application deadline is February 15, 2008. The application process is not something that can be started at the last minute. Students should apply to the SURF program for the Building and Fire Research Laboratory where our group is located. The students are not applying for a specific project, just to our lab. Hopefully in the application review process we will match your student to our project. Of course you can let us know who has applied.
